Burna Boy Makes history as the First African Artiste to Hit #1 on the Indian Charts.

It’s no surprise that Burna Boy, Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats singer, has reached a new milestone on the international music scene. Recently, his contribution to the late Indian rapper Sidhu Moose Wala’s “Mera Na bu” reached #1 on the Indian music charts.

This makes him the second African and Nigerian artist after Rema to appear on the Billboard India Songs chart.

Mera Na” is an upbeat and light-hearted collaboration between two up-and-coming musical genres that likely haven’t crossed paths in the past.

The song was released posthumously on April 7, 2023 and features African Giant himself, Burna Boy and Steel Banglez, a British songwriter and music producer. This song jump-started Burna Boy’s career when it peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 and debuted at number 102 on the Billboard Global 200 in the United States.

Burna Boy, the African giant that he is, has steadily climbed the international music scene since his debut single in 2009 and has since accumulated a huge following. He rose to worldwide fame for his 2019 album African Giant, which made him famous and earned him the 2021 Grammy Award.
